My Top 10 Podcasting Tools
I want to talk about this podcast. If you are wondering what it takes to produce a podcast and how much equipment and time it takes…well, my friend, you are in luck!
I am going to break down my podcast workflow and tell you exactly how I produce this show every week.
First, let’s talk about why I chose to podcast.
I could have chosen to blog, video on YouTube or a live show on Facebook or Instagram but I chose to podcast.
Why? Because I am a podcast junkie myself and love to talk.
I knew that I would need to be consistent with whatever I decided to use as my regular content and I was really turned on by the fact that I could batch record episodes.
Sure, I could batch anything but getting dressed and made up for the video was too daunting and then all of the editing makes me want to cringe.
Plus I like to write but I wanted my voice to be heard so I figured I’d give podcasting a shot.
So, now I’m addicted. I have refined my system so that it takes far less time than it did in the beginning and I’m really starting to find my voice.
So let’s dive in!
Let’s talk gear & software:
- Mic – Audio Technica 2100 USB mic – This is the mic that I use and that Pat Flynn of the Smart Passive Income recommends because it’s a decent mic and has a great price tag.
- Arm – Newwer Boom Arm – I use this to hold my mic at mouth level so I’m not bending my neck down to talk…I don’t need any extra reason for poor posture or humps. ?
- Pop Filter – Earamble Pop Filter – “S” & “P” sounds can be really hard to control but this filter sits just in front of your mic to help block any extra hard wind sounds.
- Garage Band is a free Mac software that I use to record and edit my podcast. There are others out there like Hindenberg that do a really good job too.
- Skype – Interviews
- Ecamm recorder – Mac Tool – I use this to record my Skype interviews. It records my audio and my guests audio on separate tracks so that I can adjust the volume and edit each separately if needed. I’ve tried others and this one works great. Plus, it’s a one time purchase and not a monthly fee.
- Auphonic – or Sound Expert (I use Carson Baker his company is Nexus Integrated Systems & Services – He’s awesome!) Auphonic helps to balance out your sound but a sound engineer will do so much more.
- Libsyn –RSS feed – This is how your podcast gets to all of the places like iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, etc. It’s a syndication platform. It’s fairly simple and easy to use.
- Repurpose – for YouTube – This tool is a set it and forget it kinda tool (my fav). It takes your audio and turns it into a video. Then it posts it to your YouTube channel for you. It’s just a way to put your content out in multiple places for people to find. For me, right now, this works perfectly.
- WAVVE – My favorite tool for the social media video snippets with the sound waves. You can check them out on my Instagram feed @mommyshomeoffice.
So there you have it.
